I was so, so lucky to come across this today. Birdies young and old were enjoying the small pond, and were only around for maybe fifteen minutes or so and then they were gone. Talk about great timing! There were several other shots I got that I really like, but they will have to be posted later.

(I recommend clicking the photo to see more detail in the larger size)

Spending a quiet afternoon messing around in Photoshop and listening to the flow of traffic outside. I'm a huge fan of white noise because it covers up my tinnitus and makes the ringing in my ears less noticeable. It's great that the highway provides constant white noise for free. For some people I'm sure it would be annoying but for me it's just perfect.

Okay, last one from the beach, I promise. She's just got such a great smile in this one that I had to post it.

21/365

Another candid shot from the same day as the previous post.

(is that cheating? I'd like to think not...)

20/365

Apologies for being unable to post the last two days, I spent some much needed time with a friend and was away from my computer. We had a fantastic time at the beach, the sun was peeking out just slightly enough through the clouds to get some warmth and colour without feeling scorched. I will miss having weekdays off but am looking forward to being gainfully employed again.

One more week until I start the new job! I'm just going to enjoy my time off this week and try to relax as much as possible, things are going to get crazy very soon. I'm left wondering how well I will be able to post every day once I start working again, but I'm sure I can stick with it.

Before heading out on what turned out to be an amazing walk by the lake, I loaded up my phone with tons of music, mostly stuff I used to listen to about ten years ago. Wow, what a walk it was. I was so busy enjoying the sights and music that I was only able to take two pictures.

Sometimes it's better to just let yourself experience life without stopping to document everything. It's amazing how I can listen to certain songs from so many years ago, and it immediately triggers a flood of memories I didn't even realize I had.

This weekend was fairly quiet, and I very much enjoyed that.

I am not entirely sure this post requires an explanation.

Rawr??

This is my token iPhone Hipstamatic photo, taken at night. Although fairly ubiquitous now, it's a convenient tool to snap a picture when the subject won't last long where he is (second shelf halfway up my bookcase in this instance).

Went to see a game at the Rogers Centre today and witnessed this; it was too funny.

*also I've been noticing that no matter how careful I am with the focus, my pictures always seem slightly off.
Then I realized I haven't cleaned my lens in a long time...well, actually I've never cleaned either of them.
Oops, better get on that! For shame...

My littlest sweetie...though she's not that little! That belly speaks for itself.

Spent another hot day indoors, I'm looking forward to getting outside tomorrow to catch a game at Rogers Centre followed by dinner with my dad, should be good times.

Playing around with colours and textures in photoshop.

I promise this is my last one from the trip to High Park. I've been hiding inside away from the sweltering weather and don't relish the idea of heading out the door to get some new shots. In this heat the best time to shoot is in the early morning, before the sun has a chance to cook everything it touches.
Now if only I can drag myself out of bed...

Sunday 17 July 2011

10/365

I'm usually not very comfortable in front of the camera, I'd much prefer to be behind it. However, the past few months I have been spending quite a bit of time on my own. My favourite subjects are always living, whether plants, animals or people. There's only so many pictures of my cats I can post online, so I decided to get past my discomfort and use myself as a model, since I'm readily available and free of charge to boot.

Spent the day in High Park yesterday. It felt amazing to be out of the downtown core and get back to a bit of nature, it's been way too long.

Friday 15 July 2011

Every day I'm so blessed to reside with the clouds in the sky.

* another one from the same day, but I don't like it quite as much as the one above.
I probably should've moved the fan out of the way...ah well, live and learn.

Remnants of Pride, what a great weekend that was. Thinking about it brings a smile to my face, as does all the sunshine we've been getting lately! I noticed in yesterday's post how pale my face is (typical Brit, haha), and I think I'll get outside today and hopefully get some colour back in my cheeks.

Sometimes I would like to be someone else.
I always seem to be comparing, wishing and regretting.
It's great to strive for self-improvement, but not at the cost of forgetting who I am.

* I wanted to add an outtake from this afternoon. The focus is off a little, but there's something I like about it.
Maybe it's all those blues.

This photo doesn't really need much of an introduction, it was shot from the rooftop of my apartment building. I have many, many photos of the various views from up there and from inside my apartment window, and somehow never get tired of it. I love the beauty of the city in the evening. I only wish I had a wide angle lens that could capture the entire scene.

Monday 11 July 2011

4/365

Summer is definitely in full swing, and though I'd rather be outside, the extreme heat and humidity today has me hiding out at home in the wonderful world of air conditioning. I've taken what feels like a million photos in my apartment, and after a while the location sort of loses its appeal. Nevertheless I tried to capture what was supposed to be a quiet afternoon nap with Spencer. Instead, his curiosity over the shutter sound had him on high alert, the nap long forgotten.
C'est la vie.

Sunday 10 July 2011

3/365

This was taken at my mother's house celebrating my nephew's 4th birthday today. Kids make amazing subjects; they are not self conscious at all. Most times they're hardly aware I'm even taking their picture and it makes for really nice candid shots.

I couldn't post just one today, there was an adorable girl at the party and I couldn't take my camera off of her.

It's impossible not to take advantage of this time of year, the natural colours are so vivid and bright, it's pretty much inspiring outdoors in any direction you look. I have to remind myself sometimes to get outside and enjoy the sun, it's easy to get stuck in routine and miss out on great photo opportunities.

Friday 8 July 2011

1/365

I finally decided to jump on the bandwagon and start a 365 project. For me this is a big commitment, but it's a fantastic way not only to improve my photography skills, but also to improve my communication skills as I go along. Change is always good!
